Rules

  1. There will be overall male and female winners, plus three age groups for each: open (under 40 years), masters (40-49) and grandmasters (50+). To avoid duplication of awards, overall winners will not be eligible for age group awards.
  2. Participants may run as many of the series races as they wish, but only the top three 50K and top two 50 mile results will be used for the final tally. Should any runner complete every race, they will receive special recognition.
  3. Scoring will be as follows: 50 points for first place, 40 for second, 30 for third, 20 for fourth, 10 for all other finishers. 10 points will also be awarded to all volunteers. Volunteers should notify the series director to ensure their scores are recorded. Scoring of overall and age group results will be done separately.
  4. If in any race there are fewer than five finishers scoring overall or in any age class, the scores will be as follows: last place and all volunteers receive 10 points. Others receive an additional 10 pts. for each finisher beaten (for example, if there are three finishers, the scores will be 30 for first, 20 for second, 10 for third).
  5. In the case of tie scores at the end of the season, the tiebreaker will be the number of races at which each runner volunteered. If a tie remains, the winner will be decided by the series director based on head-to-head competitions or any other standard the director chooses.
  6. In the event a competitor changes age class during the season, all scores for that runner will be recorded in the age class he or she was in when they first entered the series.
  7. Entry into the series will be possible at each race. That day's race will be scored even if the entry happens after the race. No other retroactive scoring will be allowed.
  8. The series director reserves the right to disallow any score the director deems was unfairly received.

Registration
The Fab 5 Fifties Series is part of the Upper Midwest Trail Runners club. A $20 annual UMTR membership includes registration in both the Fab 5 Fifties Series and the MN Trail Running Series.
